Semi Kit – Chariot
About the model
Developed after the Italian raids in the Mediterranean during 1940-41. Using a captured Maiale (pig, so called by its operators due to its poor handling characteristics) around 30 Mark I chariots were made with the main armament being a 600lb detachable war head.
After training in Scotland the Chariots were first used in the unsuccessful mission against the Tirpiz where the Chariots were lost from the underside of the fishing boat only four miles from their target.
They were also used in various operations in the Mediterranean.
