One of the original Type 42 destroyers to be built HMS Newcastle entered service with the Royal Navy in early 1980 displacing over 4,400tonnes and with her mixed armament of Sea Dart missiles, Vickers 4.5 inch gun, twin 20mm.Oerlikons, triple torpedo launchers and Lynx HAS MkII anti-ship/submarine helicopter she fulfils a variety of roles within the navy.
Powered by two Rolls Royce Olympus gas turbines developing over 60,000shp arranged in the CoGoG configuration she is capable of over 30knots and has a world wide range.
Our beautifully moulded hull comes complete with all stern cutouts, hawse holes and waterline moulded in, the superb set of highly detailled drawings by MARBETH DESIGNS allows for a really accurate and highly detailled model to be constructed, with R/C. and twin 545 motors fitted she has an impressive turn of speed on the water, and being quite a large model looks very impressive, more suited to the modeller with some previous experience.
