Prototype history (click)
This is the original Big Gun battleship built in 1905 at the Royal Navy Dockyard at Portsmouth .(in great secrecy) She was the brainchild of Admiral Sir John Fisher. Most striking feature was her all 12″ (10 No.) main gun armament, one of the biggest revolutionary steps was the fully Parsons turbine power to 4 shafts, this gave a top speed of 21 knots. When first shown she immediately made all other battleships in the world obsolete, (unfortunately this meant that all Royal Navy ships were also obsolete!) Although a battleship, the hull lines are really fine and accurate (made from a Brian King mould), making for an easily driven model, our hull has no plating detail, although it could be said that on a model at this scale plating would not be noticeable. Very good quality full-size plans from A & A show the ship drawn as in 1905. The model is perfect for powering with 545 type motors, performance with R/C will be greatly improved with individual electronic speed controllers. Large scale warships look very good on the water and are a joy to build.
